The inspiration of a second-grade teacher and her older autistic brother are two primary reasons Woodlawn High School senior Madelyn Ferachi plans to pursue a career in special education at LSU. Madelyn, who has a 3.8 GPA, was honored as the third recipient of the Kathy Craig Scholarship. The $1,500 scholarship is given annually to a magnet student from EBR Schools in memory of Kathy Craig, a trailblazer for desegregation and former principal and director of the EBRPSS Magnet Program. Craig retired after 30 years in education and died in 2010.

The Workforce Development team, students, parents and community partners kicked off the 12th Grade High School Summer Internship Program with a successful orientation. The program will provide students with a unique opportunity to explore their career aspirations through an authentic experience characterized by a real-world work placement, professional mentorship, continuous learning, acquisition of new skills, fostering of self-development and insights into the possibilities of the 21st-century job market. Student interns and their families received vital information needed for a successful internship experience.
