We’re pleased to inform everyone that power has been restored to all East Baton Rouge Parish schools affected by Monday’s severe weather, with the exception of Villa del Rey Elementary and Claiborne Elementary.
Entergy has provided a possible restoration time for the two remaining sites for 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 14. Students will not have to make up the missed day of school.
We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate updates once they become available. #WeAreEBR

Baton Rouge High was an impressive 167th out of nearly 25,000 public schools in the country, No. 4 in Louisiana, No. 1 in the metro area and No. 44 among in magnet schools. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college. #WeAreEBR #ebrschools

Due to last night’s severe weather, we are experiencing widespread power outages across our district and Entergy has not provided an estimated time for restoration. As a result, 9 schools will be closed Tuesday, May 14, for the safety of our students and staff.
Here’s the list of schools:

• McKinley High School
• The Dufrocq School
• The Virtual Academy Administrative Building
• White Hills Elementary School

Salute to Baton Rouge Magnet High School`s Brandon Lin for being honored as a Presidential Scholar. Each year, up to 161 students are named U.S. Presidential Scholars, one of the nation`s highest honors for high school students. The Scholars represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in young people. Students are selected based on “academic success, excellence in the arts and in technical education, through essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as a demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership.” Congratulations, Brandon.

Istrouma High School`s Jeremiah Thomas earned a trip to Las Vegas this summer after winning a gold medal in the recent NAACP-ACTSO Culinary Competition at the New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute. The junior was one of several Istrouma students to showcase their culinary skills by fabricating a chicken or duck, knife cuts and preparing an appetizer and entree using a protein preselected in advance by the organizers. Jeremiah attributed his win to being enrolled in ProStart classes at Istrouma High School and having had the opportunity to compete in the LRA ProStart Student Invitational. Jeremiah will compete in the national competition on July 13-17 in Las Vegas.
