Love Your Heart Day

Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10:00am - 2:00pm

Join us for the return of “Love Your Heart Day” in recognition of American Heart Month on Saturday, February 17  from 10 AM – 2 PM!

LASM, in conjunction with the Improvisation: The Art & Healing Power of Jazz exhibition and in partnership with the Office of Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and the Healthy BR program, is hosting a family-focused, educational event that will include engaging, heart health-related activities and a variety of community resources. Participation in “Love Your Heart Day” festivities is included in the price of general admission and free to LASM members.

Visitors can join in on the “heart health fun” with a “Dance Party” at 10:30 AM that includes a special guest appearance by City of Baton Rouge Chief of Administration Officer Dante Bidwell, who will speak on the importance of heart health and will provide information about the Healthy BR program that focuses on creating a collaborative culture of health in our city.

Dre Guerin, Co-Owner and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at X-Factor Sports Performance, Donald Washington, Owner and Fitness Expert at Transformation Fitness, and Dr. Rebecca Bartlett, PT, DPT, Wellness Instructor for IMLS Healthy Aging with LASM, will also encourage visitors to "make wise moves" by engaging audience members of all ages in fun warm-ups and line dances. LPB's Lyla in the Loop will also be showing in the Adelie Brent Auditorium throughout the event, and LPB Kids Club members will receive a 50% admission discount

After the dance party in the Bert S. Turner Family Atrium, LASM invites younger visitors and their accompanying adults to enjoy the museum’s Read & Create program at 11:15 AM where Bri Fields, member of the Southern University BR Collegiate 100, will read an inspirational story followed by a related hands-on art activity.

Other community partners will include East Baton Rouge Parish Library, Baton Rouge General Arts in Medicine, the American Heart Association, Line4Line, The Red Stick Project, America My Oyster Association, and The Gray’s Army Foundation. LASM educators will also facilitate a BASF Pop-up STEAM activity featuring chromatography hearts.
