The Baton Rouge African American Museum is relocating, and they need your help to launch a capital campaign for their new location. The Walls Project has partnered with the Museum to produce three murals inside the Museum, and they have secured an $18,000 grant for the project. However, to make this project a reality, The Walls Project needs to raise a matching fund of $7,500.
To help raise these funds, The Walls Project and the Baton Rouge African American Museum are hosting Legacies to Afrofutures: A Benefit Concert for the Baton Rouge African American Museum. This fundraising event will take place on Saturday, May 20th at Chelsea's Live, a live music venue in Baton Rouge.
The concert will feature a DJ, two music acts, and an MC, providing an unforgettable night of entertainment. Tickets for the event cost $25 each, and all proceeds will go towards the Baton Rouge African American Museum's capital campaign.
The goal of the event is not only to cover the costs of the event, but also to raise the matching fund of $7,500 needed to produce the three murals. Any remaining funds from the event will go towards the Museum.
Additionally, The Walls Project will be offering a complimentary ticket to anyone who donates $100 or more during the 225GIVES campaign from April 20th to May 4th. Monthly recurring donors of The Walls Project will also receive a complimentary ticket.
The event will also recruit volunteers and sponsorships for the Scotlandville CDC's prayer walk on Juneteenth 2023, which will ask volunteers to walk from the old museum location to the new location. This walk will help move artifacts from the old museum location to the new one, and ensure the preservation of African American history in Baton Rouge.
