For those looking to give back to the community, the USS KIDD Veterans Museum is seeking volunteers to lend a hand on Saturday, Feb. 28th, as part of its Mini Field Day. A Field Day event is a work day aboard ship. "Our Field Days in the fall are a weekend-long event," said Ship Superintendent Tim NesSmith. "The Mini Field Day is for folks within driving distance. They can come, help out, and then head home without giving up their whole weekend." NesSmith stated that no military experience is required, just a willingness to work and a desire to have fun. "The camaraderie is great. A lot of friendships have started on Field Days that continue away from the ship." The event runs from 9AM to 5PM and individuals wanting to volunteer may contact Tim NesSmith at 225-342-1942, x. 11 to sign up.
