Heritage Lecture: Author Maggie Heyn Richardson The Foundation for Historical Louisiana's May Heritage Lecture will feature Baton Rouge author Maggie Heyn Richardson discussing her new book, "Hungry for Louisiana: An Omnivore's Journey." The book is one of the latest book releases from LSU Press. At the lecture, Richardson will share her insights into Louisiana cuisine and its inherent effect on the state's distinctive culture and its people. Richardson will autograph books after the lecture.

Capoeira in Town Square Join Capoeira Baton Rouge in North Boulevard Town Square at Galvez Plaza for FREE basic Capoeira classes on Wednesdays at 7PM and Sundays at 6PM. Capoeira is a Brazilian art form which combines fight, dance, and rhythmic movements that are performed in a dialog between players. Students can expect to learn basic Capoeira movements and acrobatics in order to enhance ones flexibility and general muscle strength. Most of the classes start with a brief warm-up and learning Capoeira, movements through strength, technique, history, and music. By doing Capoeira people get connected with Brazilian and African culture in many different forms.

Red Stick Farmer's Market Join BREADA at the market this Saturday, May 16, and support your local farmers. Bring the kids out to check in at the Sprouts table for their complementary $2 in tokens so the whole family can participate. Farmers and food artisans will be offering leafy greens, zucchini, squash, native wines, cheese, prepared meals, fresh eggs, artisan breads, jellies and more. This week's Fresh from the Market cooking demonstration will feature Richard Hanley of Hanley's Salad Dressings. The demonstration will take place inside Main Street Market at 10AM in the North Street seating area featuring fresh and local ingredients from the market in seasonal recipes.
