There is much discussion and observance on the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina this week. The DDD in Baton Rouge was heavily involved with many aspects of business and residents placement in downtown BR as well as retention of existing businesses. The River Center also served as a shelter for thousands of displaced New Orleans residents.
As this Hurricane and Louisiana leadership's response brought international attention, the DDD was selected to present at the 2010 IDA World Congress of Town Centres and Downtowns in London, England. The presentation was titled:
A Tale of Two Cities How Successful Partnerships Enabled Downtown Baton Rouge to Thrive in the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Under the leadership of Mayor Holden and his entire Administration, Baton Rouge carried the State of Louisiana as the economic engine that kept the state moving - perhaps BR's finest hour.
