The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra is proud to honor Black History Month with a concert that recognizes more than 100 years of contributions to the American song book. William Grant Still's symphonic masterpiece is the first symphony written by an African-American composer and it combines blues progressions and rhythms into a symphonic form. Gershwin's American in Paris is a symphonic poem depicting the time he spent in Paris complete with taxi horns! Our featured guest artists are trumpeter Rex Richardson and BRSO's own principal trumpet, Brian Shaw presenting the Concerto for Two Trumpets by Stephen Paulus.
