LSU Tiger Trails kicks off!
LSU Tiger Trails Transit began full-scale operations August 24. The service is FREE to LSU riders and to the general public. With a total of 6 Downtown stops, the Tiger Trails system is fully equipped with GPS and can be tracked on iPhones, iPods or laptop computers. Bus arrival times are every 20-30 minutes and will run Monday-Friday 7AM - 5:30 PM. Below is a link to the transit visualization software page.

32nd Annual Labor Day Concert
Every Labor Day The Baton Rouge Concert Band Performs on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol. The concert is free and everyone is welcome! Bring a lawn chair and refreshments and come enjoy some wonderful family entertainment!

Freedom Walk 2009
Originally created in 2005 to commemorate the attack on the Pentagon and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the Freedom Walk has grown into a nationwide event. The starting point for the walk will be at the USS KIDD Veterans Memorial. The route will start at the USS KIDD Veterans Memorial and will proceed northward along the Riverwalk for ½ mile before returning to the KIDD for a total distance of one (1) mile. Saturday, September 5, 8AM.

Arts Market this Sunday!
Over 50 artists from four states will be on hand this Saturday, September 5th from 8 a.m. - 12 noon at 5th at Main Street. Begin your weekend by shopping at the Arts Market! Items available include jewelry, pottery, metal sculpture, stained glass, hand made soaps, birdhouses, wind chimes, hand knit garments, photography, and lots more. The Purse and the Person: A Century of Women's Purses @ LASM
This Sunday is Free First Sunday at LASM and they are having The Artist's Perspective with Pam Rabelais Vinci. It will take place at 2:00 pm on September 6. Pam Rabelais Vinci will guide visitors through The Purse and the Person: A Century of Women's Purses while discussing the evolution of women's fashion, handbag fabrication methods, and the historic and sociocultural significance of apparel. Vinci is curator of the LSU Textile and Costume Museum and an LSU professor of textile science, apparel design, and merchandising. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Red Stick Farmer's Market
On Saturday at the Red Stick Farmers Market Doyle Hanson will be on hand to sharpen garden tools and kitchen cutlery. Local chocolatier Steve Lawrence returns to the Market with fresh ideas from his summer travels and local artisan bakers Forte Grove, SaySaye Village Bakery and Le Potager will offer quick ideas for Labor Day appetizers. The markets welcome the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners who will provide soil sample kits for garden enthusiasts. First Saturday events also include the Baton Rouge Arts Market which features local artisans and regional crafts and is located next to the Farmers Market in the Cathedral parking lot.

Main Street Market
Friday morning Main Street Market will host the Tune In morning show with Whitney Vann to celebrate fifty years of community service in the Baton Rouge area by Cancer Services. Chefs and local physicians will provide healthy eating and wellness tips for patients with cancer. Main Street Market will offer complimentary breakfast for guests between 5AM and 7AM throughout the morning television talk show. Saturday's Fresh from the Market weekly cooking show will feature guest chef Daniel Thompson of Heirloom Cuisine. Thompson and Chef Celeste Gill will demonstrate local menu ideas for fresh and seasonal Labor Day entertaining. The two chefs are also participating in the 2009 Capital Chefs' Showcase, benefitting Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. The cooking show begins at 10AM inside Main Street Market at the North Street seating area and offers a sampling of the recipes to the Market audience.
