2009 Louisiana Book Festival The Louisiana Book Festival is back for its seventh installment! Louisiana's world-class celebration of readers, writers and their books will return to Baton Rouge from 10:00AM - 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2009, in downtown Baton Rouge, with musical entertainment going through 7:30 p.m. as the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra caps off the event with a free outdoor concert in front of the Louisiana State Capitol. This free celebration all takes place at the State Library of Louisiana, the Louisiana State Capitol, the Louisiana State Museum, and in tents on neighboring streets.

Lunchtime Lagniappe Chet Folkes and Tommy Simmons "Spinach Madeleine, Sensation Salads, and Carrot Soufflé: Baton Rouge's history of Food." Dive into Baton Rouge's culinary history with local experts who reveal the true stories behind the city's famous restaurants, outstanding restaurateurs and favorite classic Baton Rouge recipes. Guests are encouraged to bring lunch and to come and go as their schedules require. Refreshments are provided by the Louisiana State Museum Friends for a small donation.

Main Street Market Red Stick Farmers Market has been selected as one of 12 national sites for the Toyota Hybrid Farm to Table Tour. The national tour arrives at Red Stick Farmers Market on Saturday, October 17, in downtown Baton Rouge. The tour highlights the benefits that farmers markets around the country offer their community and celebrates regional local foods. The Saturday special event will give shoppers a chance to sample delectable, market-inspired tastings from some of Baton Rouge's finest local chefs. There will be complimentary culinary gifts, garden plants and an opportunity to take a ride in one of the Toyota green cars.

Baton Rouge Green Crawl The Baton Rouge Green Crawl is a free event designed to introduce Baton Rouge residents to our city's green resources, green developments, and green businesses. The event will unfold in a unique way...beginning at any stop along a map throughout downtown Baton Rouge, Mid-City, Corporate Boulevard, College, and Perkins Road Overpass, where it eventually comes to a stop at historic Chelsea's Cafe. Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre Opens its 2009-2010 Season with Ailey II The Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre begins its' 2009-2010 Season themed "A Season of Tutus and Two II's," with Ailey® II an exceptional company that combines Alvin Ailey's energy and passion with the creative vision of today's most dynamic choreographers on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 7:30 pm at the Baton Rouge River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts. Starry Messenger: Galileo's Vision in 21st Century Art Gaze upon the stars in the Irene W. Pennington Planetarium while joining the artists represented in the exhibition Starry Messenger: Galileo's Vision in 21st Century Art in a lively moderated discussion about art and astronomy. See the artists' work on the planetarium dome and images of the cosmic masterpieces that inspire the work. The art galleries will open at 5:00, and the panel discussion begins at 6:00.
