Development & Renovations in the Downtown Arts & Entertainment District
Development and Renovations continue in the Downtown Arts & Entertainment District. With the district approved recently as an official 'cultural district' offering incentives for original works of art sold, five projects are underway providing unique opportunities in strenghthening the district as a hub of activity. Hotel Indigo renovations underway
Renovations to the former historic Hotel King property on the corner of Lafayette Street and Convention Street are in full swing. The new hotel, Hotel Indigo, will be a 93-room boutique hotel inclusive of a 60-seat bar with limited restaurant service. Hotel Indigo is slated to open its doors late 2010 and provide a 'cool' new feel to the hotel scene in downtown BR.

302 Third St. renovations coming
The name is not yet determined but 302 Third St (the corner of Florida and Third) is about to undergo a serious face lift and renovation. The new live entertainment venue will be similar to other popular live venues such as House of Blues in New Orleans and The Varsity in Baton Rouge. It is anticipated to open early 2010 and include a unique elevated outdoor deck behind the historic Coca-Cola sign.

Art Gallery & Police sub-station
The State Office Facilities Corporation has agreed to lease 2,000 square feet of vacant retail space in the State Garage at Third & Convention Streets to the City-Parish for a new City Police substation and a proposed art gallery. Under the agreement, the City-Parish will spend $300,000 to cover the costs of finishing off the police substation and the art gallery in exchange for a 10-year, no-cost lease for the space. The Office renovations beginning
The Office is a big player in Lafayette's downtown night scene. The Office offers a wide variety of live music attracting young people from all over Acadiana. After proving to be a huge success in Lafayette, The Office owners chose downtown Baton Rouge at 422 Third Street (next to Puncher's) for its next location. The Baton Rouge location is expected to open the latter part of this year.

Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar and Restaurant opening soon
Work on Lucy's continues! Lucy's is renovating the façade, transforming it into a covered outdoor seating patio. The patio will provide patrons a front row seat on Third Street next to The Roux House. The eatery's atmosphere is tropical and fun. The menu includes standard fare such as burgers, salads and a selection for the kids. Lucy's will also offer a doggy menu enabling dog owners the option of ordering snacks for their pooches.
