A MESSAGE FROM THE DDD
downtown east
Development continues!

Downtown East, located just east of I-110 and adjacent to Historic Beauregard Town and Historic Spanish Town, is currently experiencing a transformation. Residential housing, religious institutions, small warehouse structures, and recreational opportunities all contribute to the special character of the neighborhood. Check out a few of the current projects underway in Downtown East below!

BREC Park: BREC's 14th Street Park is currently under renovations to include new/repaired windows and doors, painting, fencing, new lighting and a reconfigured basketball court. The park also features a recreation center with a boxing ring and workout equipment. Work should be complete by the end of summer 2019 and will feature a large mural depicting the building's original use - a bottling plant for Dr. Pepper.

Downtown Greenway: The Downtown Greenway is an award winning bicycle and pedestrian corridor linking surrounding neighborhoods to downtown's civic and cultural attractions. Components on North Blvd. and Expressway Park are complete, with construction to begin on East Blvd and T.J. Jemison Blvd on May 30th. The project should be complete by the end of the year.

Historic Hotel Lincoln: The historic Hotel Lincoln, is being converted into residential apartments with a ground floor restaurant. The project recently received Planning Commission approval and will be considered by the Metro Council on May 15th. Construction is expected to commence upon final approvals.

Red Stick Social: Construction on phase one of the Electric Depot, previously occupied by Entergy and located on Government Street, is complete. Red Stick Social which included a bowling alley and entertainment center has opened their doors for family fun and entertainment!

Historic District: A 60-block area in Downtown East has been designated as the Eddie Robinson Sr. Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic district allows property owners to receive state and federal tax credits to assist in renovating approved structures. This economic incentive will be a catalyst for renovations throughout the district. Downtown Baton Rouge
Elysian II: The $17.2 million Elysian II will bring a mixture of market rate and affordable workforce housing units. Construction began on the 100 unit apartment complex in 2018 and is expected to be completed soon. Improvements to the nearby Spanish Town Park were also completed in 2016. Downtown Baton Rouge

The expansion of the Downtown Development District into the Downtown East area became official a few years ago. We thank all of those that supported our expansion, and we are excited to see development continue within our new boundaries!
