Construction has started on Phase Two of the Downtown Greenway and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2020. The $1.47 million project, funded by a Transportation Enhancement Program grant, includes the median in the 900 block of North Boulevard as well as the median on East Boulevard/T.J. Jemison Boulevard from North Boulevard to Expressway Park.
Site work includes the removal and relocation of the Live Oak trees currently in the East Boulevard/T.J. Jemison Boulevard median, with plans to plant the relocated trees in Expressway Park.
East Boulevard/TJ Jemison Boulevard median improvements include new trees, a bicycle/pedestrian path, and lighting. The project was designed by Design Workshop and will be installed by T.L. Hawk - Hawk Industries.
Upon completion of the project the Downtown Greenway will safely connect pedestrians and bicyclists from the Mississippi Riverfront/Levee Trail to Expressway Park. Plans to connect the Downtown Greenway to the Government Street bicycle/pedestrian improvements via Louisiana Avenue are also being developed.
