4000 Beta Students arrive in BR!
Baton Rouge is set to host the 2010 Louisiana State Beta Club Convention at the Baton Rouge River Center. 4000 students from around the state will converge on the city to celebrate their academic success and compete in various academic competitions. The convention has been held in Baton Rouge for the last three years. Please be advised, the convention begins at 7 a.m. both days. Traffic will be heavy and BR City Police will be on St. Louis St. for traffic control.

Red Stick Roller Derby Season Opener at the River Center
Catch the Red Stick Roller Derby Season Opener this Saturday, January 23, 7PM. Doors open at 6PM. The event will be held in the River Center Ballroom. Children get in FREE. General admission the day of is $14. Tickets avilable from TIcketmaster or River Center Box Office. Special pre-bout exhibition scrimmage by the RSRD Freshmeat Skaters! Half-time entertainment by The Bedlamville Triflers.

RSRD Team Fundraiser at Dalton's
Dalton's is hosting a fundraiser for the young athletes of the Red Stick Roller Derby this Friday afternoon, January 22 5:30-8:30PM, the eve of the team's first Baton Rouge bout of the season. The team must generate its own funds to stay on the track so come out for a great afternoon/evening of fun with The Bench Bar Boogie Band, meet the girls, and help support the league. There will be merchandise, give-aways, and derby bar games. If you can't attend, you can send donations to the Red Stick Roller Derby at P.O. Box 83821, Baton Rouge, LA 70884.

"Help for Haiti: Strength through Unity"
Local musicians and social activists will gather for a benefit concert on Wednesday, January 20, 2009, 8PM at the Lyceum Dean. Performances by The Mike Foster Project, The Juke Joint Band, Tyree Neal, Ernest Jackson, Ian Von, Arianne, Dane Carmouche, Marcel P Black, Xero, Anna West and more!
