Krewe of Artemis
By Baton Rouge's first and only all-female parading Mardi Gras Krewe was founded in 2001 with the mission of focusing on a family style Mardi Gras event that could be enjoyed by people of all ages. The Krewe features a full length New Orleans style night parade in downtown Baton Rouge. The Krewe of Artemis rolls to the streets Friday, February 5 at 7PM at the corner of St. Philip Street & South Boulevard. 2010 theme is "Artemis Remembers Her Childhood" honoring such stories that bring us back to our childhood such as, The Three Little Pigs, Jungle Book, Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe and Peter Pan to name a few along with the usual carnival favorites beep cars and marching bands.

Krewe Mystique de la Capitale
The Krewe Mystique rolls to the streets at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 6. Parade begins and ends at the corner of Government Street & St. Philip Street. Krewe Mystique de la Capitale held its first parade in 1977 and has continued with its annual Mardi Gras Parades to this date. The parade consists of approximately 25 to 30 floats representing our krewe along with many local businesses and charitable organizations. With the addition of several bands and many other marching groups, our parade is a wonderful experience for the people who come to take part. We consider our event to be a very family friendly parade, enjoyable for all ages.

Krewe of Orion
The Krewe of Orion rolls through the streets of downtown Baton Rouge Saturday, February 6 at 6:30PM. Parade begins and ends at the corner of Government Street and St. Philip Street. Come see the 11th anniversary of Baton Rouge's first traditional New Orleans style night-time carnival parade. Parade goers will be treated with exciting, colorful floats with masked and costumed riders, throwing themed parade and float medallions, Krewe of Orion signature footballs, cups, plush animals, doubloons, lighted throws, parade themed medallions, and beads. The parade also features marching bands and other walking and riding units.

Historic Spanish Town Civic Association Fundraiser
The HSTCA will collect contributions for its historic preservation efforts by offering unique T shirts at the Main Street Market Saturday from 9AM to noon. The design features a bold pink flamingo design against black on an all-cotton shirt in sizes S - XXL. It's available only through HSTCA and offered only one more day before the February 14th parade.

Arts Market Saturday
After a short break in January, The Baton Rouge Arts Market resumes its regular schedule of every first Saturday of the month from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at 5th and Main Streets in Downtown Baton Rouge. Shop for Valentine's Day with over 60 artists from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Florida who will present original works of art in a variety of mediums including, pottery, jewelry, woodwork, textiles, photographs, glass, paintings, sculpture, hand-made soaps and so much more. The Arts Market regularly features free children's art activities from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Arts Market's Kids Booth. The Baton Rouge Arts Market is held in conjunction with the weekly Red Stick Farmers Market and the Main Street Market.

Superbowl Saturday at the Market
Get ready to cheer on the Saints with lots of great finds at the Markets this weekend! Fresh produce, party appetizers, ready to serve meals, and baked goods will give your Superbowl party a Louisiana touch! Ruffino's Restaurant will also offer party ideas during the Fresh from the Market cooking show at 10 AM in the North Street seating area of Main Street Market. The Arts Market returns alongside the Red Stick Farmers Market with over 70 artists from the Gulf region. The Master Gardeners will also be on hand with winter gardening tips. Free First Sunday
First Sunday is a cooperative endeavor offered by downtown museums for free admission to events on the first Sunday of each month. Visit the Old State Capitol, LASM, LSU MOA, and USS KIDD and explore all the wonderful things they have to offer for FREE!

The staff of Louisiana's Old State Capitol will host the Louisiane Vintage Dancers in conjunction with First Sunday on Feb. 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The dancers will be wearing 1850s attire and recreating the antebellum era. The building will open at noon with refreshments and activities for children including creating Victorian paper dolls and decorating vintage fans.

Spanishtown Parade
The 30th Annual Parade begins Saturday, February 13 at 12 noon on State Capitol Drive. Spanish Town rolls out with a fleet of 70 floats. Dancing to the marching bands, hands poised for catching goodies, eclectic attire is the order of the day. Come early and bring your lawn chairs. 2010 Dignataries include King Mr. Tom Sylvest, Queen Ms. Liz Walker & the Grand Marshal Mr. Nick Spitzer.

NOTE** The Alcohol Free Zone is designated from the north side of Convention Street between 5th and 7th Streets.

Krewe of Poseidon
Downtown's newest parade will roll February 13 at 4PM after Spanishtown. Parade Grand Marshalls include Randy Jackson from the rock band Zebra, local artist Chris LeBlanc, marching bands, dance troops, and a Poseidon Best Band Contest. Parade highlights include the newest night-time parade with illuminated floats all pulled with traditional tractors NOLA Style. Parade features our mascot "Neptune" and his following of walking fish.

Louisiana Association of Secretaries to Chiefs of Police Conference
Baton Rouge will be host to a conference for the Louisiana Association of Secretaries to Chiefs of Police on April 21-23 at the Sheraton Hotel. They are accepting donations to help provide food and entertainment for the event. Contributions such as money, door prizes, gift certificates, etc. will be accepted or other promotional items such as pens, stickers, pads, or t-shirts for hospitality bags. All sponsors will be recognized in the conference program information. This would be a great opportunity to help support law enforcement and promote local businesses.
