Poetry Out Loud
You are invited to the Poetry Out Loud State Final. Special performances by local poets. Reception following competition sponsored by Whole Foods. The Poetry Out Loud program uses contemporary trends in poetry, especially the revival of poetry as an oral art form, as seen in slam poetry and hip-hop music, to encourage American youth to get involved in this form of literature. The program, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, "builds on that momentum by inviting the dynamic aspects of slam poetry, spoken word and theater into the English class," according to the Web site for Poetry Out Loud.
