The Manship Theatre Cult Film Series
Very few writers or filmmakers have impacted popular culture and an entire generation quite as much as John Hughes. During the 1980's his prolific body of works captivated American teenagers, molding the next generation of filmmakers. Still today the phrase "a John Hughes movie" will instantly conjure a range of images and associations, including the smooth, pale faces of a bevy of young actors. The Manship Theatre will present Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club on Friday, May 28th at 7:30PM.

"Within and Beyond the Walls of the Old St. Gabriel Church"
The Old St. Gabriel Church appears on its face as a fairly typical late 19th century Gothic Revival wood frame church, but what lies beneath its surface is a rare 18th century early Creole Colonial structure that is the oldest church structure in the Mississippi Valley. David Broussard presents the historical background and details that describe the building of the church in the 1770's by the Acadian settlers of the St. Gabriel and the Spanish colonial government.

Beat the heat on the Downtown Trolley
You may have noticed the disappearance of the red Downtown Trolleys. The Blue Bird buses are temporarily taking their place while we await the brand new trolleys later this year! We look forward to the new trolleys, but for now the Blue Birds are here for your convenience, following the same route and providing a much needed break from the increasing heat. Take it easy and hop on the Downtown Trolley!
