GOVERNMENT RESOURCES |
NEW WEBSITE ADDITION |
The DDD was established through state legislation and is connected to the East Baton Rouge City-Parish through that legislation and local ordinance. The connection to both the state and local government accentuates our role and ability to act as a liaison between government entities and downtown stakeholders. We navigate the complexities of regulatory requirements, advocate for policies that benefit the downtown area, and inform stakeholders about downtown items discussed/voted on at public meetings. This page was created as our stakeholders' go to source to find governmental resources and public information that impacts them.

BLACK BUSINESS MONTH HIGHLIGHT |
As we wrap up Black Business Month, we're shining a spotlight on Renard Thomas, better known as "Nard", the visionary behind Nard FitElite Downtown.
Nard's journey to Baton Rouge began at Southern University, where he studied computer science and played in the renowned Human Jukebox band. However, it was his passion for boxing during college that sparked a dream to open a gym and become a personal trainer.
That dream evolved into NardFit, a gym he established in 2021. Nard chose Downtown as his business base as it is a connecting point between Southern University and LSU students. What began as a single gym has since flourished into a fitness empire, with the launch of NardFit Elite, a 24-hour facility, and NardFit Studio in Mid City. Nard's influence extends beyond the physical gym with the NardFit app, offering remote fitness lessons to a broader audience. Despite his brand's impressive growth, Nard remains deeply committed to his roots as a personal trainer, dedicated to helping his clients achieve their best selves.
His success is a testament to the community's support, and his advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple yet profound: "Pursue what you love, even if you'd do it for free."

Did you know Downtown is much more than just the Central Business District? The Downtown Development District is comprised of six unique, architecturally vibrant neighborhoods: Historic Spanish Town, Historic Beauregard Town, Central Business District, Capitol View North, South Baton Rouge, and Downtown East.
The DDD advocates and supports initiatives within all of our neighborhoods. Currently in South Baton Rouge, we attend community meetings organized by MetroMorphosis to advocate for the rejuvenation of South Baton Rouge. To learn more about these efforts, check out the link below.
