The Sounds of Summer Concert Series & Discover BR Days
Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of EBR Parish

The Sounds of Summer concert series is part of a parish-wide celebration of the 200th anniversary of the creation of East Baton Rouge Parish. Residents have expressed their appreciation for events such as Sunday in The Park and Live After Five, and now have the opportunity to extend the live music experience into the summer.

The Mayor and the Metro Council have joined with the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and area media sponsors to create the Sounds of Summer music series as a highlight of a host of quality arts culture and entertainment opportunities that will take place in East Baton Rouge Parish from June to August. The celebration will culminate with the Louisiana Balloon Festival in August.

In addition to the Sounds of Summer concerts, the celebration will include two Discover Baton Rouge Days (Sunday, June 6th and Saturday, July 10th) with free admission to a variety of downtown museums and attractions, free music concerts in Lafayette Park and a free screening of the adorable family film, Babe, at 3:00 p.m. in the Manship Theatre.

More Discover Baton Rouge Day activities are being scheduled at this time, and they will be excellent opportunities for families to enjoy our great community.

The Mayor and Metro Council and The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge will also provide special music presentations at the Louisiana Balloon Festival on Friday and Saturday evenings.

In addition, the Mayor, the Metro Council and The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge will also host a special cake-cutting to celebrate East Baton Rouge's 200th birthday at the Pennington Balloon Festival on Friday, Aug. 6. The bicentennial sponsors will provide music at the Balloon festival both Friday, Aug. 6 and Saturday, Aug. 7.
.
The bicentennial events will observe the 200th birthday of East Baton Rouge Parish, which was created in 1810 after Fulwar Skipwith and Philemon Thomas led 70 men from St. Francisville to Baton Rouge, captured a Spanish fort there, and declared the city's independence from Spain.
