Beat the Heat with Cool Art
Beat the heat by experiencing cool, original art and sipping free watermelon lemonade sippers courtesy of MJ's Cafe. Several new artists will join the market on Saturday August 7th including Rachel David of New Orleans (Handmade forged steel house wares),Tony Nazero of New Orleans (Acrylic Paintings) and Patricia Sullivan of Lafayette (Hand-turned wooden objects). The Baton Rouge Arts Market showcases original, hand-made works every first Saturday of the month from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at 5th and Main Streets in Downtown Baton Rouge. The Arts Market regularly features free children's art activities from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Arts Market's Kids Booth. The Baton Rouge Arts Market is held in conjunction with the weekly Red Stick Farmers Market and the Main Street Market.

Celebrate with Lidia Bastianich
Across America August 2nd-8th has been proclaimed "National Farmers Market Week" and communities will celebrate markets that reflect the uniqueness and diversity of their community. We will celebrate in a big way by hosting chef, restaurateur, TV personality and cookbook author Lidia Bastianich at the Market this Saturday! She will be signing copies of her latest cookbook, Lidia Cooks from the Heart of Italy, from 9 to 10:30 AM in the North Street end of Main Street Market. This is sure to be a huge event!

Don't forget to stop by the Table Tops auction inside the main entrance to the Market. You can bid on a table to have in your own home! Tickets for the Lagniappe Table giveaway will also be available for $10.

This Weekend at the River Center
This weekend is certainly star filled at the River Center! Cedric the Entertainer will have the building shaking with laughter on Friday night at 8PM with special guest JJ and Malik. Saturday brings country music favorites Sugarland on Saturday at 7:30PM with opening act the Indigo Girls! Tickets on sale now!

Master Craftsmen Demonstrations
Meet and observe four artists featured in LASM's Tradition/Innovation exhibition on Saturday, August 7, 12:00-3:00 pm. Enjoy seeing how Elaine Bourque, Keith Felder, Geraldine Nash and Shawne Major create contemporary works of art while preserving traditional skills passed from generation to generation. At 2:00 pm, tour the exhibition with Maida Owens, director of the Louisiana Division of the Art's Folk life program.
