Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue
The Honky Tonk Revue plays Vintage Honky Tonk, Rockabilly and Classic Country music with a heavy dose of Western Swing for good measure. They sit poised on the edge of a country music revolution with the marketplace awakening to a new generation of musicians who have a deep-seated love and appreciation for the tried and true honky tonk sound of their predecessors.

Portrait unveiling with the Louisiana State Museum Friends
The Louisiana State Museum Friends will be hosting a reception on Tuesday Sept. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. This is a kick-off for a membership drive. The evening will also include the unveiling of a portrait of General Philemon Thomas (1763-1847) which was last on display in 1976. Thomas is best known for leading the troops that stormed Fort San Carlos in Baton Rouge, ushering in the West Florida Republic in 1810. Mardi Gras Indian Performance & Collector's Tour at LASM
Enjoy a lively performance by Mardi Gras Indians during LASM after Hours Thursday, September 2, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jean McLaughlin will also give a tour of the exhibition Tradition/Innovation. Complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres with admission: members free, nonmembers $7. Also, Sunday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m., art collector Dorian Bennett will discuss the joys of collecting and will relate stories about the artists and artwork on view in the exhibition Selections from the Dorian Bennett Collection. The event takes place on First Sunday. Admission is free to LASM's galleries and prices on planetarium shows are reduced on the first Sunday of every month.

Dana Abbott at Boudreaux and Thibodeaux's
Singer/songwriter Dana Abbott will bring her passion for blues, Motown, and rock to Boudreaux and Thibodeaux's on Thursday September 2. She's been singing and playing any instrument available since the age of 6, starting as a classical pianist, then cellist and from there percussionist/melodic percussionist to finally picking up the guitar. As long as it has some soul to it, in whatever shape or form...She's happy. Abbott has recently recorded an EP with Malcolm Burn titled, "Halfway Home." Don't miss this up and coming songstress Thursday 10PM -1AM.

Celebrate Labor Day at the Market
Celebrate Labor Day with friends, family and fresh ingredients from Red Stick Farmers Market and Main Street Markets! The farmers and local food artisans will have a variety of prepared foods, baked breads, cheeses, sweets and easy ideas for party appetizers. The Fresh from the Market weekly cooking show will feature a Labor Day menu that pairs savory appetizers with sweet party treats. Local chef William Wells of Culinary Productions will join host chef Celeste Gill at 10 AM inside Main Street Market at the North Street seating area for the popular demonstration. First Saturday activities will include the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners who provide tips on preparing for fall gardens and musical entertainment by the Lagniappe Dulcimer Society from 8:30AM until 10AM inside Main Street Market.

Arts Market this Saturday
Kick off the holiday weekend with the rich colors and sights of the Arts Market on Saturday, September 4, 2010. The Arts Market showcases original, hand-made works every first Saturday of the month from 8:00AM until 12:00PM at 5th and Main Streets. Discover unique creations with over 50 artists who will present original works of art in a variety of mediums. The Arts Market regularly features free children's art activities from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Arts Market's Kids Booth. The Baton Rouge Arts Market is held in conjunction with the weekly Red Stick Farmers Market and the Main Street Market.

An evening of music at St. Joseph Alan Morrison, organist at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, will perform a concert celebrating Robbie Giroir's 25 years as organist at St. Joseph Cathedral. The concert will take place on Sunday, September 26, 2010, 4:00 p.m. at 412 North Street. The public is invited to attend. Free admission, donations accepted.
