Making Downtown Residential Living More 'Pet Friendly'
DDD Partners with Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful to Clean Downtown

On Saturday, September 18, 2010 from 7:30AM - 12PM, The Downtown Development District will partner with Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful on an upcoming event called Downtown Beach Sweep. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and help keep our waterways healthy by picking up litter that could otherwise wash into our beautiful Mississippi River and surrounding bayous, stream and lakes.

On the day of the event, the DDD will present 8 dog waste bag dispensers and 100 trash grabbers to both Historic Spanish Town Civic Association and Beauregard Town Civic Association.

As our Downtown continues to grow and we see an increase in visitors and residential population, there is a growing need to address sanitation issues related to dog waste and litter. Many Downtown residents are pet owners and even Lucy's Retired Surfer's Bar and Restaurant offers a 'dog menu' on their patio.

The Downtown Business Association will also present 8 additional dog bag dispensers for the Central Business District. The dispensers will be installed on light poles throughout the neighborhoods and Central Business District.

Dog drinking fountains are another valuable amenity available in our efforts to make Downtown more 'pet friendly.'

Located presently on the levee bike path and soon to be incorporated into North Boulevard Town Square, the dog drinking fountains/misters are a great way to stay cool and keep Fido and yourself hydrated!

In addition to the dog waste bag dispensers and trash grabbers, the DDD has once again partnered with Keep Louisiana Beautiful on a matching grant to purchase 20 new trash receptacles for Downtown.

The receptacles will help immensely in keeping Downtown's streets and public spaces free of litter and debris.

Registration for the Downtown Beach Sweep is from 7:30 - 8:00AM in Galvez Plaza (3rd Street & North Blvd.) Supplies will be available at the time of registration along with a map of the Downtown clean-up sites including Beauregard Town, Spanish Town, Riverfront, Interstate, and Central Business District.
