Main Street Hotel and Residential Development
Hampton Inn and affordable housing will soon call Downtown home
Hampton Inn & Suites will soon establish a new $16 million - 137 room location on the corner of Lafayette and Main Streets in Downtown Baton Rouge directly behind Kress at Third and Main. Developer Richard Preis says construction could begin as early as May 2011 pending approval from the city-parish Planning Commission. The current timeline sets completion for the summer of 2012.
Preis has partnered with Windsor/Aughtry Co. of Greenville, South Carolina who have developed numerous Hampton Inn & Suites in similar sized cities such as Gainesville, FL and Columbus, SC.
The hotel will be the third major hotel to be built or renovated on Lafayette Street.
New Housing
Another exciting development in the works is a 22 unit affordable residential development at 438 Main Street near the Main Street Farmer's Market and St. Joseph Cathedral.
The development, designed by Chenevert Architects, will supply Downtown with much needed residential space, lending to our goals through Plan Baton Rouge Phase II.
The 22,346 sf development by Norman Chenevert and Kevin and Helena Cunningham includes 16 one-bedroom units, 6 two-bedroom units, a community room, and a rental/service office.
The units rates will range in price from $300 - $1100 per month depending on income level. Construction is set to begin in January 2011 and should take about one year to complete.
