Festival of Lights
Join us under downtown's historic oaks to commemorate Baton Rouge's oldest holiday tradition. Transforming the winter sky into a wonderland, the Mayor will light North Boulevard with half a million sparkling lights. Experience the magic beneath the 35-foot Christmas tree where Third Street meets North Boulevard. Enjoy free ice skating and play in six tons of real snow at the Snow Village. Hop aboard the Snowball Express trackless train to enjoy the sights and sounds of the holidays along North Boulevard. Roaming performers will be on hand including a magician, a balloon artist, stilt walkers, and more. Visit Santa's Gift Shoppe or listen to holiday music during an evening of visual, culinary, and performing arts. Don't miss an illuminated Miracle on Third Street and the many holiday open houses and art showings.

Holiday Art Walk
On December 3rd, 7:00pm -10:00pm, a number of Downtown galleries and businesses will be hosting art showings featuring work from some of the area's finest artists for a unique and festive downtown art event to coincide with the 2010 Festival of Lights. The Holiday Art Walk is a great resource for one-of-a-kind gifts and a great opportunity for the community to show its support for the arts in Baton Rouge.

Reindeer Run & Jingle Bell Jog
The 2010 Reindeer Run & Jingle Bell Jog is a Forum 35 family friendly run that is held in conjuction with the Festival of Lights. They will again be partnering with the U.S. Marines for Toys for Tots. Please bring a NEW unwrapped toy to early packet pickup or on race day to be entered in a raffle for a $75 gift certificate to Varsity Sports. Please no weapon toys. Online registration ends at 10pm on December 1st.

Third Street Closure for filming
On Monday December 6, The film Battleship will be filming scenes at the Third Street side of the Shaw Center from approximately 6AM - 3PM. Third Street between North Blvd. and Convention Street will be closed from Sunday December 5 at 3AM till Monday December 6 at 3PM. The filming on Monday will involve loud explosions and dust-smoke. Film crews will allow residents and business owners/employees passage between takes. North Blvd, Convention Street and the Third Street Garage will remain open. If you have particular concerns (deliveries,construction, accessability needs, etc.), please call the locations department at 312-550-2344.

"Music at Mid-Day" Concerts
A FREE lunchtime concert beginning at noon each Wednesday will feature local musicians, student ensembles, professional musicians and a wide variety of music from Classical to Standards, Blues, Jazz and Americana. Downtown patrons interested in attending can bring their own lunch, or contact one of the participating downtown restaurants and order from the Music @ Mid-Day lunch menu. Restaurant partners include Capital City Grill, Stroubes Chophouse, Tsunami Sushi and the Hilton Kingfish.

The Listening Room
The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the River City Jazz Coalition present The Listening Room. The Listening Room is a series of jazz concerts supported by donations from the audience and presented in a casual setting. Theses acoustic jazz performances feature nationally and internationally known performers and local favorites. The Listening Room proudly presents the internationally celebrated Baptiste Trotignon Trio on December 4, 2010 in the Studio Theatre at the Manship Theatre at the Shaw Center for the Arts at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m.

A Very Monkey Christmas
Join Curious George and LPB's Kid's Dish Ladies, Stephanie Riegel and Tracey Koch, at the Red Stick Farmers Market for A Very Monkey Christmas. Children can get their picture taken with everyone's favorite little monkey along with cooking up some great holiday treats the whole family will love! The Kid's Dish Ladies are all about preparing fun and healthy meals for children, so don't forget to take a stroll through the market and pick up some great local produce for your holiday dishes. Pearl Harbor Day at USS KIDD
A memorial service will be held at 11:55AM on December 7 aboard the USS KIDD to honor the memory of those servicemen killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. A memorial service will also be held at 3:00PM in the Louisiana Memorial Plaza for the seventeen (17) crewmen lost aboard the Coast Guard buoy tender USCGC WHITE ALDER (WLM-541). In 1968, the WHITE ALDER and all but three of her crew were lost in a collision with the Taiwanese freighter M/V HELENA on the Mississippi River near White Castle, Louisiana, just south of Baton Rouge, leaving the tender and most of her crew entombed on the bottom of the river.
