Passion of Mythic Proportions
Based on a epic poem by Alexander Pushkin, the BRSO performs the Overture from Mikail Ivanovich Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmilla. This torturous tale of love, sorcery and restoration is followed by the dramatic Piano Concerto by Robert Schumann. Marking her sixth appearance with the BRSO, Constance Carroll performs the Schumann Concerto. The budding seeds of early Romanticism are celebrated as the Orchestra performs Haydn's Symphony No. 49 "La Passione," followed by selections from Richard Wagner's powerful Ring Cycle, a legendary collection of Teutonic Lore concerning a magic ring that grants the power to rule the world.
