Dig Big into Literacy
DIG Baton Rouge is partnering with the Glen "Big Baby" Davis Foundation, which encourages city youth through focusing on literacy, athletic and healthy recreational events & activities. DIG Baton Rouge and the Glen "Big Baby" Davis Foundation, in conjunction with the Manship Theatre is proud to announce an upcoming tour stop: DIG Big into Literacy, to be held on the 4th Floor Terrace of the Shaw Center for the Arts. A $20 donation to DIG BIG into Literacy will give you a chance to meet one of Baton Rouge's most recognized athletes

Red Stick Green Drinks is a chance for ecologically minded Baton Rouge residents to meet, exchange ideas, and just generally have a good time. WHYR is a new non-commercial listener supported community radio station primarily comprising locally produced programs featuring local voices covering everything from environment and public affairs, language and culture and even roller derby. The purpose of the Light Up The Night 5K and 1 mile fun run is to raise money to help sponsor a mission abroad with Operation Smile, a children's charity that provides free surgery for children with life threatening deformities, such as cleft lips and cleft palates.

Cool as a Cucumber
Chill out with a Louisiana cucumber this Saturday at the Markets to celebrate Cool as a Cucumber! The Fresh from the Market cooking show will feature the Discover You CAN demonstration on how to preserve cucumbers and purple hull peas. Red Stick Farmers Market vendor Tanya Dillon of Delight Thyself will demonstrate how to can these summertime vegetables at 10 AM in the North Street seating area of Main Street Market. Recipe cards, canning tips, and complimentary samples will be available for market shoppers. Music by Kevin Johnson and the Lagniappe Dulcimer Society will also be provided throughout the morning. The Red Stick Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 8AM-12PM at Fifth and Main Streets.

Friday Night Floral Design Class at Fleur Du Jour
Fleur Du Jour is hosting a beginner-level floral design class this Friday. Their friendly and engaging staff will guide you through the basics of flower care and conditioning, and show you how to gently handle and manipulate flowers to create eye-catching designs. Cost of the class is $50 per person and is limited to 10 students per class.
