Tailgaiting Throwdown Cook-Off Competition at the Market
Red Stick Farmers Market will celebrate 15 years in Downtown Baton Rouge on Saturday with its first Tailgating Throwdown cook-off competition. Individuals and teams will compete in a cooking competition along the streets of downtown Baton Rouge using local ingredients from the Red Stick Farmers Market. Celebrity judges Poppy Tooker, Jay Dardenne and Jay Ducote will determine the Tailgating Throwdown Champion and the award for best use of local ingredients. The public is invited to purchase a $15 tasting bracelet to sample the tailgating fare and vote for the people's choice award. The tasting will occur from 9AM to 11AM along North Street and 4th Street. Shoppers can also purchase a mimosa or bloody Mary while enjoying live entertainment by The John Gray Jazz Trio and The Fabulous Bagasse Boyz. The morning's festivities will also include a cake walk to celebrate the Market's anniversary. The Red Stick Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 8AM-12PM at Fifth and Main Streets.

Sunday in the Park Fall series finale with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band
The 2011 FREE Fall Concert concludes on Sunday in historic Lafayette Park across from the Shaw Center for the Arts. Come and enjoy amazing live music, wonderful food, face painting and balloon creations. Sunday in the Park is a fall and spring series of free outdoor concerts in collaboration with the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and 225 Magazine.

The Old Governor's Mansion Gala
The Old Governor's Mansion Gala is an annual party benefitting the Foundation of Historical Louisiana's preservation projects. The formal event boasts a silent auction, food, spirits, and a live band. Past themes have been "Louisiana's French Connection", "Hollywood on the Bayou," and "Louisiana's Famous and Infamous." Attendees are encouraged to dress to the theme, Mad Men Chic or Black Tie Optiona, and the Old Governor's Mansion is decorated befitting it as well. The event is the Foundation's biggest fundraiser.

First Annual Dash Against Diabetes 5K Run / Walk
What's better than taking a nice jog on a cool fall morning? Getting in your daily exercise, and supporting a good cause at the same time!
In honor of his grandmother and many like her with diabetes, NBA player Tyrus Thomas is partnering with the American Association of Diabetes to raise awareness and walk for a cause in Downtown Baton Rouge. The event will have entertainment, great food and welcomes runners and walkers alike to take part in the Tyrus Thomas Foundation's first annual "Dash Against Diabetes."

LASM Planetarium Re-Opening and Star Party on the Levee
Louisiana Art & Science Museum, Irene W. Pennington Planetarium will reopen Friday, November 4, after a three-month renovation. During the project, which began August 1, new carpet and seats were installed, and capacity was increased from 143 to 171. The space now has a unique, spacious, and comfortable feel to it that visitors should immediately notice when they enter the theater. Several shows, including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon, and Digital Universe will open. There will also be a Star Party on the Levee to gaze at Jupiter, Venus, the moon, star clusters, and more through telescopes set up in front of the riverfront dock between LASM and the USS Kidd. The event is FREE!

Ashton Shepherd at Manship Theatre
Ashton Shepherd knows "Where Country Grows." Her distinctive sound comes from her family farm in the tiny hamlet of Leroy, Alabama. More specifically, it comes from a backyard cabin called The Pickin' Shed. That's where this young wife and mother crafts her extraordinarily insightful country songs.

Arts Market Saturday
The Baton Rouge Arts Market takes place every first Saturday of the month from 8:00AM until 12:00PM at 5th and Main Streets in Downtown Baton Rouge. Featuring artists from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Florida who will present original works of art in a variety of mediums including, pottery, jewelry, woodwork, textiles, photographs, glass, paintings, sculpture, hand-made soaps and so much more. The Arts Market regularly features free children's art activities from 9:00AM until 12:00PM at the Arts Market's Kids Booth. The Baton Rouge Arts Market is held in conjunction with the weekly Red Stick Farmers Market and the Main Street Market.
