This past week was an exciting and historic one for Downtown as the newly commemorated North Boulevard Town Square took center stage, showing off all of her tricks and embracing the programming of a variety of events. Below is a recap of last week's activities featuring special video presentations and photos. Sunrise Ceremony
First United Methodist conducted their annual Sunrise Cermony in the Town Lawn on Easter Sunday. Previously, First United Methodist conducted the early morning service on the Mississippi River levee, but will now utilize North Boulevard Town Square because of its huge success.

Zumba - YMCA Spring Outdoor Fitness Series
The YMCA held their free weekly Zumba classes on Monday and Wednesday for one of the largest groups yet. Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music and dance movements. This class is "exercise in disguise" as you experience various dances and improve your cardiovascular endurance. If you have been looking to shake up your workout routine then this is the perfect class for you!

DDD Board Meeting
The Downtown Development District conducted its monthly commission meeting in the Town Lawn, utilizing the media beacon screen to display a powerpoint slideshow of the April agenda. The setting was so impressive that we have decided to hold one outdoor meeting per year.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
The North Boulevard Town Square was officially unveiled this past Tuesday as a huge crowd gathered to hear from the Mayor, the designers and other public officials.

Yoga in the Square
Karmady Yoga, a new downtown business, continued their free weekly Yoga classes from 4:45PM - 6PM on Tuesday before the Happy's Running Club got going. We definitely encourage you to try the classes if you haven't already. Props are provided if you don't have your own.

Daily Hang Out
The Town Square attracts visitors daily as the area becomes buzzing with activity around noon each day. With so many great places to eat in convenient walking distance from the Town Square, the space has become a favorite lunchtime hangout for downtown workers.

Mentorship Academy
The Mentorship Academy has discovered that the Town Square serves as the perfect venue for outdoor classes! There is nothing like the inspiration of the outdoors to get the wheels of the mind churning.

Live after Five
The capital city's premier FREE live music event, Live after Five, hosted by the Downtown Business Association, officially kicked off last week with a record crowd. Held in Galvez Plaza in the new North Boulevard Town Square, the spring season of Live after Five opened with crowd pleasing Lil' Band o' Gold.

Blues Fest
The Baton Rouge Blues Festival was a huge success this past Saturday as acts such as James Johnson, Lightnin' Malcolm with Cameron Kimbrough, The Royal Southern Brotherhood, and Johnny Winter performed on the Galvez Stage. Concert goers voiced their positive first impressions of the new Town Square.

Sunday in the Park
Sunday in the Park resumed it's free series and closed out this historic weekend for the city with the fabulous blues pianist Eden Brent. Sunday in the park is sponsored by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge & 225 Magazine, in collaboration with the Baton Rouge Blues Foundation.
