Bicentennial Family Homecoming & Bicentennial Blues Concert
Come celebrate Louisiana's 200th birthday with two events on Saturday and Sunday sponsored by the Louisiana Bicentennial Commission. First on Saturday, The Bicentennial Family Homecoming, the Commission's hallmark event, will be held at the Capitol Park. The main stage will feature entertainment all day and pavilions representing different regions of the state will be set up in Capitol Park, highlighting their food, music and artisans. Then join us on Sunday for the Bicentennial Blues Concert at the Old State Capitol, featuring Luther Kent Trick Bag Big Band with Chris LeBlanc, and special guest Tyree Neal band, plus Mr. Hinson & the Blisters.

Live After Five presents: Bag of Donuts
Live After Five in Downtown Baton Rouge is the capital city's premier FREE live music event, hosted by the Downtown Business Association at Galvez Plaza in the new North Boulevard Town Square. This week's band, Bag of Donuts, covers a wide variety of music from the 1960's through today's top of the pop charts, including TV shows, commercials and movies. They are a New Orleans based quartet known for their wild stage antics, outlandish costumes and strange renditions of popular songs. Since their creation in 1988, they have entertained thousands of people by stealing their hearts as well as other peoples' songs. Bag of Donuts remain a professional band with an outstanding reputation.

Sunday in the Park
Sunday in the Park presents After8, an 8-piece band packing a powerful 3-piece horn section (trumpet, saxophone, and trombone), and a groove that is sure to keep you moving all day long. Their musical influences reflect their true New Orleans heritage combining Rock, Funk, Hip-hop, & R&B. After 8 covers a wide variety of music, from the 1950s to today's hot hits, while adding a touch of New Orleans-style funk to a high energy show. Sunday in the Park is presented by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.

Happy's 5K Run
The Happys5000 is back and they love mixing MUSIC+FOOD+ART+EXERCISE to create a unique participant experience. They have a lot of fun experiences in store in addition to the normal 5k run/walk, including: a "Costumed Caterpillar" division team competition, an official Beer Mile, a table tennis tent, an old school photo-booth and more! As they like to say: "It's more than just a race...it's a cultural event!"

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
The Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response Center (STAR) will be hosting 'Walk a Mile In Her Shoes'. This event is based on the old saying that you don't know what someone has been through until you have walked a mile in their shoes. The event is intended to bring awareness to the prevalence of sexual violence in our community, and have men take a role in helping to eliminate it by literally walking one mile in women's high-heeled shoes.

Red Stick Criterium
Prepare yourself for the pageantry of crit style racing- short, fast, urban and gritty. A crit (short for criterium) is where cycling and nascar meet. the speed and adrenaline of high speed cycling comes to the streets of downtown Baton Rouge. Showcase your skills in front of the largest crowds in the state. The event immediately follows Live After Five, meaning you get to showcase your skills as thousands of concert-goers turn to watch the race!

LASM: Star Party on the Levee
Join the LASM in celebrating the fascinating science of astronomy! Pennington Planetarium will host a variety of astronomy-related activities for the whole family-special planetarium shows, exhibits, a telescope display, and more. Learn about the importance of dark skies, light pollution, and careers in astronomy. Activities included with regular admission. Stargazers of all ages will enjoy viewing the Moon, the ringed planet Saturn, Venus, Mars, star clusters, and more. They will have telescopes set up on the Riverfront Landing Dock between LASM and the USS Kidd, however you are welcome to bring your own telescope. Event will only take place if the sky is clear and cloud-free.

Cascade of Color Magic
Gabriel Dawe's works have evolved into large-scale, site specific installations involving seemingly simple materials, such as sewing thread. The result is a series of impermanent sculptural installations of captivating cascades of color. His mesmerizing installations differ with every changing perspective, from the intricacies of a work when viewed from close-up to the colorful threads that are more apparent from a distance. Both the complex structure and point of view offered by the large-scale installations give Dawe's artworks a distinct perspective that is unique and thought-provoking.

Red Stick Farmer's Market
Colorful spring produce fills farmers' tables at the Red Stick Farmers Market this Saturday. Early season blueberries have arrived, as well as cucumbers, green beans, purple beans, leeks, tomatoes, spring onions, artichokes and summer squash. Fresh cut sunflowers, zinnias, snapdragons, sweet peas and bachelor buttons are also in full bloom. Main Street Market will also feature locally made products including artisan breads, culinary gifts and handcrafted jewelry. Pick up a hot breakfast from the many cafes inside Main Street Market and catch the 10AM Fresh from the Market cooking demonstration with Chef Andrea Flores this Saturday.
