Neil Young Journeys at Manship
A Sony Classics release, from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jonathan Demme. Healthy BR Press Conference
The U.S. Conference of Mayors launched The Mayors' Healthy Cities Initiative in response to America's growing obesity problem and its relationship to chronic diseases, which may be prevented or lessened through regular exercise and healthy eating. The initiative continues as a press conference will be held in North Boulevard Town Square to announce the launch of the Healthy BR website. Fruits and Vegetables will be served.

War in the Gulf at Capitol Park Museum
Under the daring colonial governor Bernardo de Galvez, Louisiana played an important but little known role in the American Revolution. Louisiana troops fought for Spain in the global war against Britain, won control of key strong points in the Lower Mississippi River Valley and the Gulf of Mexico while helping English-speaking colonies to the north win independence. The guest speaker is Robert Gray Freeland recently retired after a 30-year executive career in Latin America with American Express Company.

Red Stick Farmer's Market
The cooler temperatures are here and farmers will have a mixed variety of early fall and late summer crops at the Market this weekend. Look for mustard greens, radishes, green beans, turnips, green onions, late summer squash, okra, peppers and even melons this Saturday. Late August and early September are traditionally a slower time in the growing season, but heavy rains from Hurricane Isaac also had an effect on many of our local farmers. Donations can be made to BREADA's Louisiana Small Farm Survival Fund to help these farmers.
