Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence
Ceremonies for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation's Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23 at the Manship Theatre followed by a reception. Doors open at 6 p.m. This year's winner is author Attica Locke.

KIDD Keynotes
The USS KIDD Veterans Memorial & Museum will host its first "KIDD Keynotes" speaker, Douglas Ducote, who will speak on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the benefits of service dogs, on Friday, Jan. 24, at 1PM, in the museum theater. Ducote will have his service dog "Sir Peanut" with him to demonstrate the benefits of having a trained companion.
