USS Kidd Spirit of '45
The USS KIDD Veterans Memorial & Museum is proud to announce that the Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel will be sponsoring the KIDD's exclusive "Keep the Spirit of 45' Alive" event at the Belle's newly renovated Beauregard Room on Sunday, August 10th from 5 PM -8PM. "Spirit of 45' Day" will be celebrated nationally on August 10th this year. The Belle is generously offering 150 guests free access to this unforgettable night. The KIDD is taking phone reservations for this event.

New Venture Theatre presents The Trip to Bountiful
The Trip to Bountiful follows Carrie Watts, an active, highly motivated widow living in a cramped apartment in Houston with her son and daughter-in-law during the spring of 1953. Carrie escapes her relatives' watchful eyes to realize her dearest dream: to return to her beloved hometown, Bountiful. What starts as an ordinary trip soon becomes an inspiring and life-changing journey of discovery. This show will be performed all weekend at the Manship Theatre.

Lunchtime Lagniappe
This month's Lunchtime Lagniappe features author and historian Richard H. Holloway. Following the Confederate defeat at the Battle of Baton Rouge August 5th, 1862, Federal troops occupied the capitol city. Sharing some of his original Civil War photographs and letters from Union soldiers, Holloway examines how the northern troops viewed the city and its inhabitants. All programs begin at noon and are FREE and open to public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunches and may come and go as their schedules require

National Farmers Market Week
Celebrate National Farmers Market Week this Saturday with special events at the Red Stick Farmers Market. Chef Kelly McCann of Galatoire's Bistro will prepare farm fresh recipes during the weekly Fresh from the Market cooking show at 10AM inside Main Street Market. Children will be creating "I love my Farmers Market" artwork to be displayed at the Markets and can also enjoy complimentary face painting. Shoppers can also pick up "I love Farmers Markets" tattoos at the coffee booth while supplies last.
